James Kalleske
Winemaker Hatten wines
Born and raised in the land of great wine, the Barossa Valley, James Kalleske began learning the art of winemaking at age 17, at Grant Burge Wines. During his work as a young winemaker at Rockfield Estate & Thompson Estate in Margaret River,
James was awarded with Five Red Star James Halliday winery ratings. His passion of wine also brought him the opportunity to work with and be mentored by five of Australia’s greatest winemakers: Bob Cartwright (Leeuwin Estate), Cliff Royle (Voyager Estate), Craig Stansborough (Grant Burge Wines), Vanya Cullen (Cullen Wines) and Virginia Wilcock (Vasse Felix), as well as France’s prized 5th generation winemaker Alphonse Mellot in Sancerre.
Since 2012, James proudly and meticulously manages the winemaking and viticultural development for Hatten Wines in Bali, while travelling the world in search of new wine experiences; from Europe, to south America, to Asia, remains one of his biggest passions.
